Content Delivery (Lecture, Inquiry, Reading, Discussion and Debate, Concept Formation, Simulation, Problem-Based Learning)
Day One
Students will be divided into two groups: Group 1 and Group 2. Students in Group 1 will be given a handout/translation on the first Nuremberg Law: The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honor and Group 2 will be given the second Nuremberg Law: The Reich Citizenship Law. The teacher will instruct each student to read, analyze, and summarize their given “expert law”.
After both laws have been analyzed and summarized, students from Group 1 will be asked to find one student from Group 2; students will then be instructed to explain and describe to each other their researched law. Students will be given a summary handout to complete during this activity.
Homework: Students will be asked to read pages 502-505 and complete questions 3-5 at the end of the section.
Day Two
Hold 10 minute discussion on homework assignment, reading and answers to section questions.
Then show students a 8-10 minute video/interview of Holocaust survivor Nechama Shneorson (start video at 8:07 and end at 16:54). Suggest to students to write down notes. http://sfi.usc.edu/education/livinghistories/lesson.php?nid=715
Instruct students to then answer 4-5 video questions. Questions will be projected onto the projection screen, students should record answers in their notebooks, and will be allowed to work in pairs.
Students will then be shown via projection screen a translation of H. Himmler’s order of the Final Solution. Ask for a volunteer to read the translation out loud. Hold 5 minute discussion on Final Solution order and its future consequences for the Jewish people.
