Goals and Objectives
Students will be able to identify World War II political,
diplomatic, and military leaders such as Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano
Roosevelt, Emperor Hirohito, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin,
Douglas MacArthur, and Dwight Eisenhower.
Students will identify, analyze, and summarize the political,
diplomatic, and militaristic issues, beliefs, and factors of Winston Churchill,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Emperor Hirohito, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini,
Joseph Stalin, Douglas MacArthur, and Dwight Eisenhower and be able to compare
and contrast in writing between several conflicting leaders.

Lesson Introduction (Anticipatory Set)
“Who AM I?”
Students will analyze 8 pictures hung up on the board and will
be asked to identify each one. Pictures will be of Winston Churchill, Franklin
Delano Roosevelt, Emperor Hirohito, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Joseph
Stalin, Douglas MacArthur, and Dwight Eisenhower. Students will record their answers in their journals. Students
will also be asked to record which country they are associated with.
(On Board) Study the 8 pictures on the board and write down in
your journals who they are and what country/nation they are related
to.

Content Delivery
Students will be divided into groups of 4-5 and given a specific
reading packet based on which political/military leader the teacher decides to
assign each group. Each packet will contain reading material from appropriate
internet sources and page numbers for specified areas of the textbook. It will
also contain a requirement handout that will require students to address and
find the answers to detailed questions and issues.

Student Engagement and Critical Thinking (Student Activities)
Student groups will take part in a jigsaw teaching strategy. Students will be required
to become “experts” on their assigned historical figure and answer/address the
questions and requirements given in each reading packet as a group.
After students become experts in their areas, they will be required to put together a
short summary about their information to later be shared to the
class.The teacher will then facilitate a show and tell discussion where a designated
speaker(s) chosen by the group will be asked to read their groups summary to the class.

(from the given 8). Students will be given an assignment sheet with instructions

Students will take turns writing on the board one thing they
learned from the lesson; the teacher will facilitate a short informal discussion
about topics on the board until every student has shared on the board.
